I didn't get how this could be possible, what with the time line ceasing to exist
Ah, yes, that part remains a bit of a mystery and I never meant for it to be completely clear, except that Brandon realizes there was a time travel and it was SG-1. The important connection is the emotional setup between the ship and the crew (SG-1 and Teal'c). There's only so much Brandon should/would be able to figure out, and yeah, like you said. GHOST STORY!!! My fanwank/idea is there was a piece of Odyssey that was in the shield (where Teal'c was standing). I made that part happen to be along a main support beam of the ship. And what with the explosion and overloads and the stress of going back in time, some of the events that happen are still infused in that section of the deck due to the weird circumstances and everything and thus just "echo" (see, Gertie's idea of a residual haunt really wasn't all that off the mark!)
So, I have to ask, what's with the lack of fraternization regs on the ship? That was harder to handwave than ghosts. :)
Do you mean the unusually close relationship between Tommy and Brandon? Or the dating between Brandon and Gertie? Hmm, I guess you're asking because they're stationed on the same ship? The Air Force hasn't written "spaceship laws" per se (so mine are a little loose for this particular "base", heh).
But in a more serious answer, it's not an issue of fraternization due to preferential treatment of subordinate/superior because all three of them are the same rank. AF-36-2909. From my understanding of the regulations, it comes down to a morale issue/preferential treatment of a superior to a subordinate (especially officer to enlisted). I guess you could argue there's a break in morale or unit cohesion because of the close relationships, but I personally think that's arguable. Gertie, Tommy, and Brandon (I don't count Suarez because, while he and Brandon get close, they're more "unit buddies"), none work in the same direct units, areas of responsibility until it gets up to Colonel/"base" level. And Air Force regs don't seem to address that specifically (they're not the Navy to have the usual submarine/ship issues which I didn't research).
I do have military members/brats who are friends of mine, so I can double check with them.
