Okay, I actually did this a while ago, but sg_fignewton's recent canon/fanon discussion made me decide to note it here.

I think I know Daniel's birth place.

I know fanon has two big camps of Daniel Jackson's birthplace. Either New York (where the parents died) or Egypt...because I guess he's an Egyptologist and/or his parents were putting up an Egyptian exhibit?

Anyway, I proffer that Daniel Jackson was born in Olympia. Either in Greece or in Oregon. I wanted it to be Oregon, since that's where Grandpa Nick was committed. But, there's no such place as Olympia, Oregon, but there is Olympia, Greece. After staring at the following picture, or its equivalent from my dvd pause and zoom, I'm positive it's some round letter O/G/C/Q and R as the state (or country) of birth.



I know pictures are questionable canon. Carter's birth month shown on a screen in "Entity" is different than the May month Orlin mentions in "Ascension", and O'Neill's age differs from "Brief Candle" to the id card shown in "Fragile Balance". But Daniel's birth information is open to question (I still want to know when July is in Stargate land if Daniel is 4 "and a half" in August of 1969).

Wow, that's awesome. I can't make any of that out at all. But then, my eyes are unreliable at the best of times.

I think it's sometime in the ninth season that someone, possibly Daniel himself, says that he has three Phds. Perhaps he finished up the third one after this episode? It does seem to fanon that at least the first two were Archaeology and Linguistics, though, not Archaeology and Anthropology. And in Emancipation, he doesn't seem to be an expert in Anthropology, just has knowledge in passing, as if he took a few courses.

You know that we've spoken about this at length. And while I am so with you on baord the argument against Daniel being born in Egypt ot New York. I am not yet sold him being born in Greece. I still have this cap on my computer and I look at it from time to time. Yes. I am insane and obsessed.

I'd love for the show to offer another clue so tgat I can make that leap. But I'm still resisting because I am stubborn and need more proof LOL

Oh, interesting! I wonder - could the writers/PTB have made up the city? I can see them having Daniel born in a real U.S. state, but deciding to come up a non-existent city of birth that would seem more poetic and more...I don't know, suited to Daniel.

This is great stuff, Aurora! And much hugs to you for typing it all out, because the screencap was just a little too blurry for me. I could follow along with what you typed out, though.

Although seriously funny. They have his home address and it's not something like "Omaland"? And no mention of the fact that he's... y'know... dead?

Single, not widowed? And as far as the degrees are concerned, canon is all over the place with that. He was just an Egyptologist in the movie (just, she says), but that's overwritten by canon, where he is most emphatically an archeologist and also a linguist. (Katherine specifically calls him that in TBFTGOG, although maybe he had different degrees in that universe.) Then here in S6, the linguistics isn't mentioned and anthropology is. And in S9, he's got all three, except that the linguistics becomes philology...

Dear Stargate. We need Redbyrd to make some kind of sense of your delightfully confusing canon. :)

This is awesome. I live for these kinds of details. I have nothing to add to the debate one way or another, but I never really bought the arguments for Daniel having been born in Egypt or NYC either, really. I don't know that there's anything in canon, besides this, which would disprove those theories, but I always wondered why the Egypt thing was so strong in fanon.
