Here's a list of all my Stargate SG-1 stories. Stories are listed in canon chronology. Unless otherwise noted, all stories are gen and range around PG/PG-13.

Note, if you're looking for a particular character or style of story, you can also search by the tags.

Also, if you've just wandered by here because you're wondering who the heck this "aurora" person is? The short story: I'm a gen fan and Stargate trivia geek who has a tendency to babble.

2009. My rebellious year. But it's still been a busy year fandomwise. I organized my first ficathon ever! And it turned out better than I ever dreamed. jacksamfriends was a quirky setup, but lots of fun (at least I had fun, and I gathered others did too), with LOTS of great fic as a result.

There was a big dry spell in the middle of the year, but I did do some dvd commentaries on fic. I even made icons! Go me!

Still busy with redial_the_gate. I can't believe we're in Season Six. I remember when were thinking, omg, we're going to do ten seasons? This will take years! And we're well over half-way there.

I've been a bad wiki editor for Solutions Stargate wiki. At least I've still been doing transcripts. Some of Atlantis, all of Universe to date. I still have to get back to doing the dvd commentary recaps for the comm site and stuff. Just getting a bit burned out sometimes. (As always, if anyone wants to volunteer to write up something for ANY of the Stargates, in the wiki, poke me!)

Fic in order of when written )

The Questions )
aurora_novarum: (Snoopy Typing)
Huzzah! I finally got my New Shiny Index of Fic done over here. I love that my stories can fit in all one entry rather than be broken up into parts. And I've organized tags a bit better (still wip) and it's really turning into my own little fic "website" with backup of recs.

I'll still be posting, or at least announcing (if they're too big for one entry) fics in lj, as well as using livejournal as my regular 'babbling' journal. But this journal will be for fics and writing stuff.

In celebration of my shiny fic index, here's the "DVD Commentary" meme again. Pick a story, any story (the dw list is the most complete, but lj works too) I've written and I'll do a dvd commentary on it (like I've already done for "Dreams Teach" and "Insurance SNAFU").

Or, if you don't want the whole shebang, like if there's something you've always wondered about like "why the heck did Aurora do THAT in Story X?", here's carte blanche to ask it.

Setting this up also has the added benefit that if others pick up on the meme, I can ask y'all cool questions/for dvds on stories. I never know if anyone will be interested in my babbling, but I'm always fascinated at other writers' processes.

Since I am INSANE and signed up to do the [livejournal.com profile] tealc_ficathon on top of [livejournal.com profile] jacksamfriends and [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer, I started thinking about what/who I write. And it made me think about who I write and when and how for ALL of SG-1 and how I write the characters.

I go in phases in my writing. Sometimes I'm very much Sam focused, other times Teal'c, other times Daniel...it's funny because even if I'm doing character focused fics, I'll tend to always have team moments if nothing else. Or if I'm writing "team" I'll try and give "moments" to each character. It must be the libra in me. Anyway...

more navel gazing on character focus and POV )

I thought about naming the authors I think write really good Jack/Daniel/Sam/Teal'c/Cam/Vala/Jonas but I knew I'd invariably leave someone off and what I think is a good Daniel voice is someone else's OOC. Now that I've blathered on, how do others wrestle with their muse/voice in SG fic. How do *you* all see the characters in writing them and how do their voices sound in your heads? Do you find yourself nodding along that those are aspects you focus on in writing the team, or are you going "Aurora is so full of crap, that's not what the heart of X character is at all!" ;-)
aurora_novarum: (Daniel books writing)
Ooh, writing meme! I can never resist these...to do or to visit at other people's.

Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you something I knew, learned, or wondered about while writing it that didn't make it onto the page.

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa.

You can find all my fic listed here.
aurora_novarum: (Daniel book reading)
Wow, I was quite prolific this year. Twenty stories all told (compared to 14 last year). Some of which is because I got the crazy idea in my head to write birthday fics for a lot of people on my flist. I failed at some and still owe people others, so...I don't think I'm going to try that again this year. My personal WIP list grew cobwebs (and got a bit bigger). It was very fun to use my writing powers for others.

(I'd planned to do twenty-one, but stupid muse is being too talky).

Most of my fic fit within ONE lj entry, so that was new and unusual. Overall--well, I was kind of middle of the road. I didn't have too many absolute clunkers, but not sure how many fics I'd consider my best ever, either. It was an interesting exploring/playing with writing as hobby year for me.

I also did two "dvd commentaries" on fanfic. I made a banner (two actually, but one's not ready for prime time reveal yet). I made some more icons (not that they're necessarily any better than my others, but it was fun).

The Questions )
aurora_novarum: (Teal'c transcend)
People guessed all but one of my movie quotes! Yay!

This is the one never figured out:
You'd think the rain would've cooled things down. All it did was make the heat wet.
I can give another quote or maybe people are just tired of playing with the meme. It's an older flick.

And...I need to get motivated on writing my ship fic. (No, not that kind of ship.) So I'm going to do something rare and post a wip. This is the first scene (still in draft form) as a motivator to myself to get this stupid thing done...and as a distraction for myself and others at the batshittery flying around fandom. Read or ignore at your pleasure

The Haunted Ship Prologue )
aurora_novarum: (Jack grammar)
Flist, you've been holding out on me!

Why did no one tell me about [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic's awesome teamy goodness story about a Training Scenario/Wargames fun called The Only Winning Move. I *love* training day scenario fics. Absolutely adore! You know how people have AMTDI kinks? This is one of my OTP teamy goodness kink. And one of my favorite [livejournal.com profile] redbyrd_sgfic's fics, Training Exercises was his/her inspiration.

I got so excited I had to rec it right away to [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec.

And because I'm still waiting for the dishwasher repairman, and I've seen this on my flist three four, five times already.

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Meme under cut )
Interesting, my mood right now seems to be veering towards onbase/offduty. I'm sure it's a phase. :-)

ETA: Hey, dishwasher guy came, and he agrees this fits under the warranty! Yay. I'll be getting a new dishwasher tub! (Not sure how I get a new tub but still have all the old stuff, but...I'll let Sears figure out those details so long as my floor doesn't leak and the machine works.) I have hot water, running toilet, and now answers about my dishwasher. Now I can finally go to work!

ETA2: And btw, I promise to stop spamming your flist now.
aurora_novarum: (Daniel book1)
Here's the second of my "dvd commentaries" on my stories. If there's a story you want to hear my random babblings writing process, you can still leave a comment here.

[livejournal.com profile] sg_betty requested "Dreams Teach" which was my first ever 'published' fanfic. It has a few rough edges, but I'm pretty fond of it because...well, you never forget your first. ;-)

If you want to read the original un-marked up version, Go Here.

Title: Dreams Teach
Category: Angst/Drama; Missing Scene; POV
Type: Gen
Character: Daniel Jackson
Rating: PG-13ish because of some language and dark subject matter

Summary: What happened when Daniel first woke up from Shifu's dream in Absolute Power?

[livejournal.com profile] fabrisse picked "Insurance SNAFU at the CPO" for me to dvd commentary. I've never done one of these before. Hope I'm doing it right.

The original version can be found here

Title: Insurance SNAFU at the CPO
Pairing: None/Gen
Category: Angst & Humor
Characters: Daniel
Rating: Family Rating
Status: complete
Series: N/A
Spoilers: Takes place after either Origin or Beachhead so anything up to Season 9 (the season 9 spoilers themselves are vague). I was planning on having it be after Vala was gone and Daniel was definitely staying, but in retrospect, it works best after Origin
Warnings: None; though no Daniels were harmed in the writing of this fic, it does contain several references to canon deaths of DanielMy paranoia in early days of how seriously people took death warnings

Summary: Daniel is called to the Civilian Personnel Office (CPO) for an audit when his file raises some red flags. A lighthearted look at the many deaths of Daniel.

Gakked from my flist. My list of stories is here...um, I think it's up to date.

Name a character that you know I write or have written, and I'll tell you:

a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.
aurora_novarum: (Jack grammar)
Copying from so many on my flist...

Ideas. Where the hell do they come from? Can you make those little fuckers show up?
Wild horse-bunnies. When a story just gets pulled right out of you. Do you get them?
Writer's block. Have you been scourged?
Clean up duty. Do you like editing?
The ending. Is it hard for you to find the ending?
The title. Where do you get yours? Do you have yours when you start the story?
Plot. If you plot out your stories first, raise your hand.
POV. How do you choose your POV for a scene? For a story?
Challenge. Do you like them? Do they inspire you?
Sex. Do you like writing sex?

ETA: All fic links have been edited to Dreamwidth entries.

2007 was my usual rec'cing, ficcing, and metaing. Had health issues through the spring and summer which curtailed, but did not stop, my fannishness. (Considering I wrote 13 stories!!!...perhaps "curtailed" is not a good word; "enabled" may be more apt). Did two ficathons, [livejournal.com profile] sd_ficathon (Sam and Daniel goodness YAY!) and the [livejournal.com profile] sg1teamficathon, which was a lot of fun to do, especially since that ficathon was one of the things that inspired me to join lj (aren't you all sorry, heh).

I've continued my work in the Stargate Wiki, helping them finish the final transcripts for Season Ten, and continued towards my goal to have every planet in the SG-1 universe have an article finished. I'm quite anal about it. Plus, with the wonderful assistance of [livejournal.com profile] suzannemarie, I started doing dvd commentary recaps at the [livejournal.com profile] sg1_solutions lj site. We're almost done Season Ten (I know I've got to get back to it), and then we'll go back where we left off in Season 4 and...wherever suzanne was in her masochistic Gary Jones saga.

I also got involved in helping start the [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate which has turned into an amazing community of squee for fans of ship/slash/gen. The recaps are gen oriented, but the meta, chats and fandom works posted are for all kinds. I love seeing the different perspectives of people watching this same show. We never dreamed when this comm started it would take off like that. And considering most of my December posts have been some kind of pimpage for the comm...y'all are probably tired of me going on about it. :-)

I can't find the actual "fics written meme" to remember what questions they asked, so I'm just doing mini metas on the stories I've written in 2007. They're listed here in order of when written:
My year in fics )
aurora_novarum: (Default)
I'm archiving my responses to this meme in an entry so it's easier to follow (and possibly edit, heh). Some were writing meta, some were "missing scenes/tags" to the story from that character's POV. (Master List of my stories

If you haven't read [livejournal.com profile] eve11's Folsum Prison Blues and its sequel, you should. And then read the latest addition in her answer to me when I played a writing meme on her lj.

In fact the meme was so fun, I want to play it too (come play with me! It's Friday!):

Name any story I've written, and any character in them, canon or OC. I'll tell you three things about that character which I didn't put in the story.

I plan on posting a rec later today of three awesome fics I've been lucky enough to get a sneak peek of betaed, as soon as someone finally posts hers. ;-)

Oh, and while I'm on here, a couple of SGA canon questions (weirdly for an SG-1 fic, but...don't ask). My SGA canon knowledge comes nowhere close to my SG-1 trivial info. 1) Do we know when Carson developed the Ancient gene? On Earth or on Atlantis? 2) Lorne has the Ancient gene, but is it canon as to whether he has it naturally or from the therapy or can I play either way? 3) How did that Ancient personal shield (from S1 and S3) attach to the person?
aurora_novarum: (Default)
You know how you have this really cool idea for a story in your head, and then when you go to write it, it comes out crap? I've written five pages give or take, and the characters aren't playing nice.

Gakked from about half of my flist by this point.

1. Comment to this post with the name of a character that I have written in fic.

2. I will comment, telling you the following:

a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

Okay, what is wrong with lj? Email notifications are screwed up. Sections of this post have disappeared--okay they're here when I look at the edit, but they didn't show up! It took me four times to respond to a comment someone left. Gak. It's Twilight Zone LJ!

Anyway...

I'm fascinated with others have to say about this. Don't know if anyone will be interested in mine, but here goes. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde and [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2

Yay, I'm so close to done on my [livejournal.com profile] sd_ficathon story! Just have one more transition scene to write, then it needs to be revised and betaed (and probably heavily revised again). And for all my attempts to write a "short" story, it's clocking in around 7,000 words at the moment. Sigh. It's supposed to be a nice easy tale.

In any case, with the story mostly on "paper" and not just in my head, I decided to play with the current meme circling around fandom. Gakked from at least 3/4 of my flist by this point:

Twenty Things that are my personal SG-1 canon.

Okay, I think I've been "tagged" three times so far, so I'd better do this meme.

Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Plus it's meta, and I love *meta*. I've been enjoying everyone elses responses to the meme. Oh, and if you haven't done or seen this meme yet...then "tag", you're it too. :-p (I mentioned I loved meta right?)

So, um, my five favorite stories (all SG-1, all gen) But all my stories have special places in my heart.

1) Just A Scientist
#1_explanation )

2)Insurance SNAFU at the CPO
#2_explanation )

3) Vanquishing Demons
#3_explanation )

4) Dreams Teach,
#4_explanation )

5) Many Roads
#5_explanation )

It was hard, there were a couple I had on the list and took off, including my most recent story (because isn't your favorite always your latest done? Heh.) I reserve the right to change my mind at any time. :-D
