Daniel Jackson's Record
Okay, I actually did this a while ago, but
sg_fignewton's recent canon/fanon discussion made me decide to note it here.
I think I know Daniel's birth place.
I know fanon has two big camps of Daniel Jackson's birthplace. Either New York (where the parents died) or Egypt...because I guess he's an Egyptologist and/or his parents were putting up an Egyptian exhibit?
Anyway, I proffer that Daniel Jackson was born in Olympia. Either in Greece or in Oregon. I wanted it to be Oregon, since that's where Grandpa Nick was committed. But, there's no such place as Olympia, Oregon, but there is Olympia, Greece. After staring at the following picture, or its equivalent from my dvd pause and zoom, I'm positive it's some round letter O/G/C/Q and R as the state (or country) of birth.
I know pictures are questionable canon. Carter's birth month shown on a screen in "Entity" is different than the May month Orlin mentions in "Ascension", and O'Neill's age differs from "Brief Candle" to the id card shown in "Fragile Balance". But Daniel's birth information is open to question (I still want to know when July is in Stargate land if Daniel is 4 "and a half" in August of 1969).
This is how I've translated the above picture:

Daniel's is the only one in Disclosure. He was specially profiled as the guy who opened the Stargate. Actually, with all the Daniel references, glowy appearances, and Thor guest spots, S6 isn't as MS/Daniel absent as you might think!
(It helps I got to know Jonas BEFORE I saw Meridian though, heh).

I haven't seen S6 (except for the Daniel ones), but I did recently see Smoke and Mirrors. I was surpised at how much I liked it. Mostly because Teal'c was utterly cool and it was nice to be introduced to Barrett for the first time. (And it's so stupid that the NID is all corrupt except for one or two "rogue" individuals. It makes it so ho hum.) Is Jonas is always portrayed like this in S6 - the nice polite guy who needs to be briefed on everything that's happened in the past? Because that was fun. And ooooh, what a missed opportunity to bring Daniel into the show. Can't you imagine the looks on Teal'c's face if the guy who answered the door had been wearing Daniel's face?
And, of course, I adored "Daniel Jackson instructed me... I believe the year was 1969." Such love. :)

Actually most of the time, Jonas recites files back to the others (which is why he's so shocked in Smoke and Mirrors). However, he does this in an innocent encylcopedia way rather than Mitchell's delivery...until he realizes he's weirding everybody out, because it's you know...weird.
Let's see a Daniel-fan's guide to Season Six (besides the THREE) from my OWN biased but Daniel-friendly opinion.
Redemption Part 1 & 2: These are among the BEST most AWESOME Teal'c scenes ever, and Stargate fans who don't watch the eps for those alone are missing out. It has McKay in snarky glory as well. Jonas's introduction is done with expectant awkwardness and not overly bad. I think they should've gone with AT's gut reaction in the Daniel/Jonas office scenes though.
Descent--well, the beginning is good, but even Jonas tolerator me finds the "Jonas is awesome. Like him" a bit hard to swallow. Plus signs, cool effects, and Major Davis spotting. Oh and wet SG-1.
Frozen. MMV, but I found it was an episode where they stuck Jonas into something better suited for Daniel's role. However, Lone Gunmen alert for X-Files fans. And Janet rocked out. Ancienty lore explored. And another reason on Jack's checklist of why Antarctica is his least favorite continent.
Nightwalkers. Many people hate this episode because A) Poor Man's X-Files, and B) Lack of Jack. I love it. I thought Sam was great as the leader (sam's my second fav after Daniel, so I'm biased towards her too). If you liked Teal'c and Jonas in Smoke and Mirrors, you'll love them here. Sam slaps Jonas and Jonas starts realizing how weird people find him. Oh, and did I mention SG-1 in civvies? Cool.
Abyss...you know.
Shadow Play. Well, if you're really not a fan of Jonas, don't watch this one because it's a return to Kelowna. If you like Al from Quantum Leap though, you'll be torn, because Dean Stockwell's really sweet as Jonas's old mentor.
The Other Guys. Sometimes (unfortunately) known as Felger I. I love the Other Guys. I love Coombs (John Billingsly) with the requisite snark that dials down Felger's, er, Felgerness. It's a humor episode, and I liked it as such (and is why others hate it). If you wondered what the deal was with that first prime in Full Circle, you'll find out here. Besides, it has an all time favorite Jack line: "You ended that sentence with a preposition, bastard!"
Allegiance. You HAVE to see this one. Jacob AND Bra'tac. Jack and Jacob heart to heart. Angst and conspiracy! Jack + Big Gun. Oh, and I don't think Jonas was even in the episode, if it was, it was a brief cameo.
Cure. Well, you'll learn more than you ever wanted to about Tok'ra in this one. It's a more classic team episode. Once again, Jonas refers to Dr. Jackson's notes as he and Teal'c try and figure things out while Sam and Jack are paired up. I find it pretty meh, but it is funny when Jonas does a nose dive into a pit of Goa'uld.
Prometheus. In my utterly biased opinion, this is one of the worst episodes ever. It's just bad, stupid, bad. I hate what they did with Q. Even Jack pointing out how insanely bad an idea it is doesn't save it. Sigh. But others don't share my hatred. Good points: Sam does a total MacGyver action shtick. Teal'c and Jack save the day (though I hate that sequence). Major Davis sighting.

I also liked Prophecy partly for the same reason. In spite of the "special Jonas" parts, this was an earnest, but insecure guy. He seemed more human. If they'd skipped Descent and had this one earlier in the season, Jonas could have had an interesting storyline that, while it may not have made him a totally compelling character, would have given him something other than being Not!Daniel most of the time.

I agree CN/Jonas certainly played the situation differently than Daniel, but I couldn't wrap my head around Jonas being the one to connect to Ayiana by being the "expert" on this new world, when he was just as alien to it as she was in many respects.
As for Prophecy, I agree. This would've been something to help give Jonas a unique identity, but there was no time to develop it (not that I'm not happy Daniel came back *bg*).
You've got no Stargate icons left at all, do you? ;-)

I'm also glad that Daniel came back on the show. :-) Still, they had an opportunity to do some interesting things with Jonas, and I don't think they really did.

Unnatural Selection: The Introduction of Fifth (and cameo by Helo of BSG!) I really liked this episode and its implications (not borne out of course). However, I think I'm in a minority on this. But you have to at least watch the ice cream scene in the beginning. It's Teal'c gold!
Sight Unseen. This is a stupid episode, and very Jonas centered (though that's not why it's stupid). Bad f/x and corny plotline/characters.
Paradise Lost. Wait, you haven't seen this yet? You HAVE to. It's the Jack and Maybourne hour. Plus Sam angst (with hug from Teal'c) and a dressing down by Dr. Lee. (heh, at least I saved the Lee sighting for last. but this ep is also why some Sam fans don't like him).
Metamorphosis Ick. Melty people and elephant men. Jonas's "specialness" is brought to the fore in an "homage" to the Graduate, with Nirrti playing seductress. Blech.
Disclosure. It's the clip show. Therefore Daniel sightings! (see the screencap). Plus you have to watch Thor's smackdown of Kinsey. It's the only clip repeated in another clip show! LOL
Forsaken. I actually found this to be Jonas actiing as more of his own character than notDaniel in this ep (because I could never see Daniel planning what he did). But others get mad because he dared write in a book...which is sacriligious, of course. ;-) I thought Sam was awesome, and Jack as team leader...nice. It was a good team episode.
Changeling...nuff said.
Memento. Jonas as NotDaniel in a team episode (but you have to watch Teal'c in the library scene...and remember it's post Changeling. I didn't notice until someone in fandom pointed it out...it's "almost" a Daniel cameo). Not fantastic, but not terrible either.
Prophecy. Well, this is the ultimate Jonas is special episode. With him in life-jeopardy danger. But for an overall character study, it's not bad at all. It gave him something unique to work with...of course right before they told him sayonara, because right after...
Full Circle. Nuff said.

Let's see...
Redemption. Sounds passable.
Descent. Don't care much for "see how wonderful Vala is!" either.
Frozen. No X-files interest. Love Janet but can get her elsewhere. Interested in Ancients, but not enough to watch.
Nightwalkers. Love good Sam in command eps, which means, sadly, all of S8 is out. (Remember Spririts?) Am sorely tempted to see Jonas get slapped. :)
Abyss. Well... yeah. :)
Shadow Play. Well, the review on Gateworld was vaguely interesting. HATE Kalownans with a passion. Pass.
The Other Guys. Perhaps can find a clip for that line of Jack's, which I never actually realized was canon. :)
Allegiance. Ooh, is this where that used-in-vids-clip of Jack in slow motion with his big honkin' gun comes from? And Bra'tac goodness. Hm. Tempting.
Cure. Yawn. Liked the Tok'ra until Anise came along. Y'know, back when they were allies. Pass.
Prometheus. Hate Simmons. Hate Tau'ri spaceships taking over the Gate. Pass.
Unnatural Selection. Think putting human faces on Replicators BIG mistake. Pass.
Sight Unseen. Pass, thank you. :)
Paradise Lost. I. HATE. MAYBOURNE. With the passion of ten thousand suns, or is that nuns? Not even the temptation of seeing Bill Lee in action for the first time is enough to make me watch this.
Metamorphosis. Pass, thank you. :)
Disclosure. Highly tempted. Know about Kinsey smackdown mostly because of this (http://www.members.tripod.com/tivester/nondisclosure_agreement.htm). And now with your screencap canon goodness... Hm. Will see.
Forsaken. Hm. Sounds vaguely interesting, for the teamy goodness.
Changeling. Well, yeah. :)
Momento. Pass.
Prophecy. Pass, thank you.
Full Circle. Imagine if they'd actually ended the show like this and left a cliffhanger for a wrap-up movie. Meep!
Thanks for all the time you put into this for me! Shall I mention that I didn't bother watching the two non-Daniel S10 eps, either? :)

Yes, of COURSE I remember Spirits. :-) Trust me, Sam is 10x better in this one, and looks cool doing it.
The Other Guys. Sniff, poor Coombs.
Felger: What would Col. O'Neill do in this situation?
Coombs: You want me to shoot you?
Allegiance. Ooh, is this where that used-in-vids-clip of Jack in slow motion with his big honkin' gun comes from?
Ooooh yeaaahhh.
Plus, it is the best Tok'ra/Jaffa/Tau'ri episode of them all. (And you really need to see the Jacob/Jack scene...not THAT way...and not That way either, heh). Really. Makes you realize how pissy they truly were in Death Knell too. Bastards.
Not even the temptation of seeing Bill Lee in action for the first time is enough to make me watch this.
Actually, he first appeared in Season Four's "Prodigy". [/anal trivial knowledge]
BTW, in fairness, Jonas is good in Metamorphosis, and definitely his own man, not NotDaniel here. I just really really really hate melty people. Really. (and yes, I ff that scene in X-Men too. I'm a wuss).
Imagine if they'd actually ended the show like this and left a cliffhanger for a wrap-up movie. Meep!
I know, as a series ender, it's kinda freaky, but I love it as a season ender. Who knows what they'll do for S10 (and if my flist does know, DON'T TELL ME!)
SEASON TEN SPOILERS BELOW (FOR AIRED EPISODES)
You know, Insiders is pretty bad in S10, but Uninvited...well, you know Puff the Magic FruitBat Dragon from "The Quest?", he's got CGI cousins in this one. Despite that, the teamy nature of this episode was good. It's worth it for the Landry/Mitchell bird calling scene. I missed Daniel in the tag though. But both eps they handled his absence well.
