If you haven't read [livejournal.com profile] eve11's Folsum Prison Blues and its sequel, you should. And then read the latest addition in her answer to me when I played a writing meme on her lj.

In fact the meme was so fun, I want to play it too (come play with me! It's Friday!):

Name any story I've written, and any character in them, canon or OC. I'll tell you three things about that character which I didn't put in the story.

I plan on posting a rec later today of three awesome fics I've been lucky enough to get a sneak peek of betaed, as soon as someone finally posts hers. ;-)

Oh, and while I'm on here, a couple of SGA canon questions (weirdly for an SG-1 fic, but...don't ask). My SGA canon knowledge comes nowhere close to my SG-1 trivial info. 1) Do we know when Carson developed the Ancient gene? On Earth or on Atlantis? 2) Lorne has the Ancient gene, but is it canon as to whether he has it naturally or from the therapy or can I play either way? 3) How did that Ancient personal shield (from S1 and S3) attach to the person?

You know why I love to beta? No, it's not because it fulfills anal-retentive needs and "fond" memories of diagramming sentences back in middle school...okay, it's not only that. It's because I get to have sneak peeks at cool stories! So maybe not unbiased, but when I beta going: "Oh I like this part. Oh I really like this part. Oh I love this part!" Heh.

The first is by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077 called Please Hang Up and Try Again. It's a bunch of "what if" scenarios of phone calls Daniel Jackson never got in the canon of the show, interspersed with possible real calls made but deleted before Arrom came home. There's joy, sorrow, grief, and humor all mixed together in a great big pile of wow! (Spoilers through "Moebius", and for team makeup in S10).

Second is a FIRST TIME SG-1 author (though it's not her first fanfic):
Scenes From a Blending by [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2. It's Jacob and Selmak introspective moments and she really REALLY gets the characters with a fantastic level of insight. Gen, set era Seasons 2-3ish.**

Last but not least is by [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa called The Gray, and is a wonderful Season 1 team adventure full of mystery with the perfect dash of snarky humor. SG-1 gate to a planet that has a lot of technological marvels, but the guild that controls the "magic" doesn't share their secrets. Any more would be telling. Although I will reveal my favorite bits are the Sam and Teal'c friendship moments.

* BTW, [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2's only watched Seasons 1-4 of the series to date, and she's trying to stay unspoiled. Not that it should come up if you decide to leave feedback for her... (and you should for all of them because–awesome stories), but just in case.... ;-)
