I'm slightly obsessed with the ex-hosts background that Sam and Vala share. Cofax's "Comparing Scars" is great for poking at that, and I wrote a fic along those lines myself back last summer for the Thelma and Louise do Outer Space ficathon. Of all the emotional baggage that SG-1's Magic Reset Button blithely passes over, ignoring the ex-host thing perhaps bugs me the most.
But then you're right that this particular shared history is only one of a number of points of connection that Sam and Vala have by late s10. It would be a friendship slow in developing, I think, because I suspect Sam isn't really all that good at having girlfriends, and it would take Vala a little while to figure that out, to continue to be persistent about trying to win her over, to develop a friendship with her. But it would be a rich and lovely friendship, ultimately.
