I abjectly adore this story. So, so funny, between Daniel's self-consciousness and Pat trying to digest everything. The insurance angle was a really clever way of addressing Daniel's habit of dying or seeming to die. And I liked Pat: she's a great 'everyman' sort of character, with a realistically mundane life resulting in a wonderfully flabbergasted reaction to what she hears.
Really, really good stuff. This is one I'm going to end up rereading whenever I need to find my happy place.
