Well, I think it's a compliment, he was one of the first scifi writers I read along with Asimov.
That's a very interesting thing to know about the fraternization rules, and of course it makes perfect sense between officers and enlisted. Seems like it would be hard to enforce among soldiers of the same rank, but I guess I can see the point there, too, especially if they're on the same unit. If there's a battle, it can't be save your friend/lover then worry about the rest of them.
Can you imagine the speculation and conspiracy theories that would result from drawing up such regs in advance? ;) Hmmm. I bet NASA has regs about that stuff--I wonder what they are?
