Happy Friday to everybody! Tonight is yet another chat night over at
redial_the_gate where people from everywhere!!!! (seriously, California, Chicago, East Coast, Europe, hopefully even Australia) with AOL/AIM get together and watch "There But For the Grace of God" together (it's at 8 pm EST, so no conflict with SGA). They've always been a lot of fun, and often turn into quite cracky discussions. Go check out further info at the comm if you want to be a part.
Also, the lovely
astrumporta has published her extensive con report about the event in San Jose the the other week--guests included Carmen, Corin Nemec, Steve Bacic (Major Coburn/Camulus), Michael Shanks, Joe Flanigan, and Jay Acovone (Charlie Kawalsky). There's a gallery of seventy-five pictures. Instead of clicking on closer versions of the hot guys actors, what do I click on? A close up of a page of MS's "First Ones" script. I am SUCH a dweeb. :-)
There's some really cute tidbits in there from all the cast (I don't think I'll look at one of my favorite Jonas scenes from "Nightwalkers" the same way again though, ew). One interesting tidbit MS mentioned was that infamous altered scene in Unending:
"As far as why Daniel went off on Vala in "Unending", Michael talked about how Rob Cooper had originally written the scene as them already having slept together and Daniel asking Vala if they were in a relationship and Vala denying it. But Michael and Claudia didn't get where Rob was coming from, or who those people were on the page. So they went to Rob with a different suggestion of how it would unfold, and Rob rewrote it. The filmed scene reflected that there was a lot of angst and anger to the relationship, and frustration and intimacy issues for both of them. Daniel was defensive and didn't want to be hurt again, so he was lashing out by pushing her away."
They were supposed to have slept together and had this whole not a relationship talk afterward? Um? I've always wondered if the way MS & CB fought for was better or worse, and now, yep this was the better alternative. (I'm still not happy with the version, but IIRC,
paian's meta back when it aired made the most sense to me about it.)
Oh, and for you spoilerphobes out there, any leaked spoilers about the movies and/or unaired in the US eps about SGA Season 4 are hidden (but there's not many to be found there).
Also, some fic recs:
You have to read
aelfygfu_mead's hilarious little story based on last week's
redial_the_gate discussion, Tin Pot. It's a great tag for Maybourne's too late attempt to get robot SG-1 and meets up with the original real deal instead.
(er,
astrogirl2 and other Season 7 spoilerphobes should look away now)
suzannemarie has committed fic again for the second? third? time now. I've corrupted her to our ways, LOL (disclaimer: I did a beta of this fic) Encourage the newbie! "Coming Home" explores Sarah Gardner's recuperation after Chimera. This story deals with the immediate aftermath of Sarah's attempt to return to normality, and balances the fine line of her being a trauma victim and not being weak. The psychological study of how SG-1 reacts and relates to her are a neat interpretation of what might have happened to this character.
And then suzanne got me on some kind of Sarah kick, because I read a cool one over at the
sg_ep_ficathon (there's some really good stories over there) and separately,
_minxy_ rec'ced called Have Snake, Will Travel by M that is a "What if" AU of the final sequence of Chimera where Osiris kind of escapes with Daniel as a hostage. The fic is entirely Osiris's POV, and it's a fascinating look at ascension, the Goa'uld, the sarc technology. (Warning: there's course language and a warning of non-con "situations"--I won't say more to spoil the details, but just know it's quite a Dannywhumping fic. These warnings might make this fic not for everyone, but it is a fascinating tale).
Have a great weekend everyone!
