I've recently read some truly wonderful stories I just had to share.
first the angsty:
Continuum fic:
Came to Pass Travelling One has written new fic again, and this one is a wonderful doozy. The first part is very Daniel centric (for me, that's definitely not a bad thing) exploring a missing scene. Part Two is more of a tag for the episode and is more team focused. Full of angst and SG-1 (Jack + Season Ten version) and banter and wonderful inter-team bonding. Trying not to spoil things in this entry, I will say it has helped me make peace with troublesome aspects to that adventure.
From Season 8:
The Yard Man by
tejas. I admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for a good Daniel bonds with a child story. And this one is great. Tejas shows a delicacy in Daniel's characterization--he's realistic. He's not necessarily great with kids. There's miscommunication. It's definitely a feel good story, but not overwhelming in sap or angst, and the original characters are as well drawn as the canon team (especially Daniel).
Sam & Vala (season ten):
A story by
ziparumpazoo called Biting the Bullet shows very early not-quite teammates Sam and Vala doing a night on the town and getting to know each other. It's set early Season Ten, when Sam knows Vala as the woman who almost stole her ship and hurt Daniel, then saved them all in "Beachhead", and Vala knows Sam as the wunderkin the guys always talked about. The wariness gives way to the buddings of the camaraderie we later see.
On the flip side, another awesome
galpalficathon story also explores Sam and Vala's relationship To Travel Hopefully by
wishfulfaces is a fantastic adventure with Sam and Vala on a roadtrip. They're fully established teammates in this one, but still strangers in many ways with each other--so the road trip bonding is a wonderful adventure. Sing along to Sam's cd mix on the open road, shop at reservations, or play drunken pool with them. No matter what, I guarantee this fic is one to savor.
(There are so few Sam & Vala (or Sam & Janet fics), I'm so happy galpal brought more around.)
circa Season Ten:
Last but not least,
paian Karaoke Night LOOK! PAIAN WROTE GEN FIC! I have to shout this with glee.
paian is a fantastic weaver of prose that is always a joy to read (when I'm not insanely jealous at her talent). But she often plays in the slash side of the pool (her amazing "neverending story" of J/D NC-17 "commentfic" slash is still going at Part 8 of *entries* now.) So I treasure it when she comes and plays in the teamy goodness sandbox I adore. This was a five things from back in June, but I missed it until now. It's a fantastic teamy goodness plus SGC staff having fun at a bar. There's silly, sublime, angst, wittiness, and wonderful camaraderie.

Date: 2008-12-16 07:50 pm (UTC)Travelling One made me not only accept it, but be entertained by the concept in a sweetly delicious way.
