I've apparently turned into an sg1_five_things monster, because I've done two more of them again this week At least *this* week, I was able to fit each of them in one comment. (And I encourage you to go visit sg1_five_things and read them all, especially the Hammond ones!
Five people at the SGC with crushes on Daniel Jackson
(er, I may have taken liberties with the definition of "crush", hey, it's me! :-)
1. Sam Carter, SG-1. She'd gone from jealousy over him figuring out the "Door to Heaven" to amazement at his lateral thinking techniques to mourning his loss to the program after the first mission. When she saw he was alive, she couldn't hide her excitement, plus he was cute to boot...but also married and so hands off. By the time Daniel was available, their relationship had deepened to such closeness, she didn't want to mess it up with some kind of office romance.
But when they finally found not-dead, not-ascended, but a living breathing lost Daniel, and he asked if there was anything between them, she couldn't help but hesitate before answering "Not that way."
2. Richard Woolsey, IOA. Oh, not that way of course. But the man was a civilian that had earned high respect amongst many in a military institution, and had insinuated himself with an ease Woolsey could never muster. Richard was half-admiring, half-jealous of the infamous Dr. Jackson, and he couldn't help but wish for the man's respect.
3. Cameron Mitchell, F-302 pilot/SG-1. To be fair, he didn't just crush on Daniel. Sam Carter, Teal'c, Jack O'Neill, all were victims of Cam's fanboy ardor. But one of his first memories from waking up after the crash of Antarctica was Daniel sitting at his bedside, thanking him for saving their lives--as if Cam would've done anything else for the team that had saved the whole damn planet more times than you could count. Then even when the guy wasn't willing to come back on the team, he was willing to give Cam the shirt off his back...or at least the keys to his place. Oh yes, Cam was crushing on Daniel, and put most of his efforts on getting Jackson back on SG-1 first.
4. Dr. Alexis Harrington, SGC archeology department. Who could resist Dr. Jackson with those dreamy blue eyes and that jawline? Plus he was so sharp minded, as anyone who'd heard one of his rants on rushed and improper translations could attest. But Alexis didn't mind. She knew people's lives were at state, especially Dr. Jackson, being on SG-1. He was a living Indiana Jones for that matter. Nikki didn't see the appeal, but she was crushing on Dixon over on SG-13...and he was *married*.
5. Vala Mal Doran, space pirate. Well, Daniel was attractive, who could argue that, and she knew from personal experience he was a *great* kisser. Most men would've jumped her by now. When Vala had first made this deal to come to SGC, she'd assumed she and Daniel would pick up where they left off on that rattletrap spaceship of Earth's. Instead the guy was playing hard to get, and Vala couldn't figure out why. It couldn't be lack of chemistry. She still remembered that kiss. He wasn't still holding that little matter of selling out his crew against her, was he? Actually, he seemed to be wanting to redeem her, silly boy. The strange thing was, she was starting to respond to it. Maybe the weeks stuck in this mountain's basement was rubbing off on her, but she was actually starting to want to earn his respect. But that was a silly notion. It must be something different. Reading up she read these about these quaint Tau'ri notions of courtship and being a gentleman. Perhaps that was it. Yes, that was all.
Five things Hammond hid in the desk drawers in his office
1. Single malt scotch, bottom drawer, credenza. He'd spent a lot of long hours, off duty waiting in that office, and sometimes a man needed to get through the worst. Usually after long hours and a report filing a team was either MIA or KIA...or at least holding off on sending such a report.
Fraiser knew about, she called it his medicinal drawer. He'd shared it once with Jack one late night when they'd just finished meeting with Thor and the Tollan. A toast to darkness before O'Neill went on that horrible cover mission. He never drank on duty...well, twice on duty. The first was when they'd lost Daniel, really lost him. Hammond had watched with everyone else as the boy had turned into a beam of light. If that didn't call for a drink, nothing did. The second was when they lost Fraiser. He figured the Doc wouldn't mind this little prescription from the medicinal drawer to toast an old friend.
2. A report from Capt. Samantha Carter at the Pentagon regarding solar activity effects on the Stargate. With it was a book of sunspot and solar flare activity, with a page flagged and a few flares from August 1969 highlighted. Even after SG-1 came back from that mission, Hammond kept it in the drawer, just to remind him what had and could be.
3. SG-7's horseshoe. Every team had their rituals and superstitions; it was the unspoken knowledge of the SGC. For the most part, the teams thought Hammond was unaware of it. But only SG-7 brought George into their ritual. They figured their team number was already a bit of a red flag, because who wouldn't want to test "lucky number 7"? So as an added safeguard, before every mission, they would hand Hammond their horeshoe, imprinted with the team's number and the earth symbol, and Hammond would keep it safe upon their return. Hammond didn't argue with success, SG-7 was one of the teams he had the least trouble with.
Sometimes he wondered if he should give horseshoes to SG-1 and SG-6, but he didn't want to break the confidence.
4. A picture of his wife. He knew he could've put it up on any of the shelves in his office. But he kept it the top left drawer of his desk. He didn't know for certain why he did it, but if pressed, he may answer that it was to keep part of his life private from this job that seemed to take so much of his life--for all the willingness that he made the sacrifice for this military family.
5. The list. Hammond kept a list of every casualty of everyone on base or on a field team that fell in the line of duty. He never told anyone, it was not an official report, just something he did for himself. Handwritten, not typed, Hammond wanted to personally include the name of each of his people, as if dropping his ink on the page would somehow pay tribute to the blood that they spilled.
