Links of coolness.

Evening the Odds was [personal profile] cleothemuse's answer to The One Prompt comm on lj and it's a hilarious look at Reynolds's philosophy of being a team leader.

To Dance on the Floor in a Round by [personal profile] pepper is a great team story. I'm not a fan of this genre, but this "realistic" spin on a very cracky cliche will have you laugh and cry.

Rumor Mill by cowardly lion is a "comic" aby rec'ced. You'd think the screencaps used were posed specifically for cowardly lion's story. Hilarious.

And last but not least:

The Baby Job. A Leverage fic by [personal profile] beanpot (featuring stargazer's Baby Thor!) Even as a straight up story, it's character perfect.

*laughs that two of my fic recs involve babies...well three from a certain point of view*

ETA: Oh, and a pimping rec. Solutions Site has gone through a site redesign. It's still being doctored with new features, but the main page is done and the news blog has been updated (with tags for the main cast for all three shows to make it easier to find tidbits about your favorite actor).

You may want to check out the retrospectives that DeeKay has been doing of all the past seasons of SG-1 and SGA (she calls them 13 for 13, but what they are is a look back at the cast and crew's thoughts about the seasons from back then. It's a kinda neat walk down memory lane.

2009. My rebellious year. But it's still been a busy year fandomwise. I organized my first ficathon ever! And it turned out better than I ever dreamed. jacksamfriends was a quirky setup, but lots of fun (at least I had fun, and I gathered others did too), with LOTS of great fic as a result.

There was a big dry spell in the middle of the year, but I did do some dvd commentaries on fic. I even made icons! Go me!

Still busy with redial_the_gate. I can't believe we're in Season Six. I remember when were thinking, omg, we're going to do ten seasons? This will take years! And we're well over half-way there.

I've been a bad wiki editor for Solutions Stargate wiki. At least I've still been doing transcripts. Some of Atlantis, all of Universe to date. I still have to get back to doing the dvd commentary recaps for the comm site and stuff. Just getting a bit burned out sometimes. (As always, if anyone wants to volunteer to write up something for ANY of the Stargates, in the wiki, poke me!)

Prompt: "Well? Can you fix it?"
Characters: Siler, Carter, Teal'c, O'Neill, Hammond, Fraiser
Rating/Category: G rating; Gen, Drama

Summary: A day in the life of Sergeant Siler

Author's Notes: Yes, note this was *collaborative* with [personal profile] zats_clear. I offhandedly mentioned this idea for [livejournal.com profile] one_prompt that I knew I couldn't get written in time, and she started actually writing out scenes for it. Between the two of us, we gave Siler a very full day.

So the [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things bug bit me again, partly because one of them was my prompt:

Five Inappropriate Times Thor Beamed Jack Up )

Five classes Rodney will never admit to taking in college. )

And last not but not least (because it was my prompt! Whee! Five things Carolyn Lam learned about Janet Fraiser after being CMO of Stargate Command )

If you noticed there's only four here, that's because #5 ended up being its own story. Unexpected Visitor.
aurora_novarum: (Hammond)
I've apparently turned into an sg1_five_things monster, because I've done two more of them again this week At least *this* week, I was able to fit each of them in one comment. (And I encourage you to go visit sg1_five_things and read them all, especially the Hammond ones!

Vids seem to be the theme of the day, so...let's roll with it.

First, a very sweet and slow teamy h/c vid by [personal profile] cleothemuse: Don't Give Up. Aw, teamy goodness, all season!

Also, [personal profile] buefo has made SG-1 Goes to the Movies which is a gen team vid (she mentions a possible Daniel bias in the clips, heh) done to the theme songs of some iconic movies. Lots of fun. (Can watch streaming or download).

And last but not least, you guys ARE keeping up with MGM, right? The orientation videos just keep on coming. Latest is about the Lucian Alliance. I think I may wear out the replay on some of them. (Dammit, I may end up buying the SGU Season 1 dvd just for this "extra" if it's on there).
aurora_novarum: (Daniel & Jack lost city)
I'm terrible at five things prompts. I see them, but I can't do them. Either I get nothing, or my longwinded muse could not fit a thing into such a format. But at the lastest sg1_debrief round up, I noticed sg1_five_things had two prompts related to Evolution. Five things Bill Lee learned about Daniel during their time in Honduras, and Five things Burke learned about Jack.

Considering how "Just a Scientist" created my love for Bill Lee, and I've always been fond of Burke and his actor, I **could not resist** the siren call. And thus this five things virgin has made two submissions (even if I may not have done them right. Heh.)

Gen Recs

Oct. 6th, 2009 08:36 pm
aurora_novarum: (Daniel book reading)
Aurora has had a no good crappy horrible day. What is the solution?! Read good fic!

First a rec of a fic I just randomly discovered wandering the interwebs.

Routine Mission by maranya14
SG-13 intrateam banter and friendly rivalry with their comrades as far as bragging rights. It's DAVE DIXON. How can you not love it?

Secondly, I've had a couple of belated birthday presents (seriously, I'm very overwhelmed by the fandom love I received)

The Interview by sg_betty. A linguist gets recruited to this strange classified program, and now he's cooling his heels post clearance checks waiting for the job interview...it's not quite like he expected. :-)

A Birthday to Remember by [personal profile] thothmes. It's Daniel post Homecoming in Season 7, heading offbase and to his new apartment, but he's forgotten the date. Nice insight into Daniel's mindset, and sweet teamy goodness.
aurora_novarum: (daniel teddy)
While I mentioned it in (unbelievably massive list of fandom prezzie links, which...fandom is awesome! *hugs fandom*), I wanted to make a special point.

Thank you so much for the gift of a paid account here at dreamwidth. It was extraordinarily thoughtful of you (but I wish you weren't anon to thank you properly).

I assume it was a birthday present (and if so I have a couple suspects). But in case it was just a random gifting by a guardian angel...I thought a remembered there was a community you could go to to thank donors. Or maybe it was just a suggestion of one. I've run searches and even wandered the dw wiki, but I can't find it. Does anyone know what it was called?

If not, please let this serve as heartfelt thanks. :-)
aurora_novarum: (Sam&Teal'c&Daniel smug trio)
Wow! This has been an amazing birthday for me. Pretty cards and time with family and friends and CHOCOLATE CAKE for dessert.

And lots of lovely birthday wishes from fandom too. Thank you all for the lovely thoughts and shout outs [personal profile] abyssinia, [personal profile] traycer, [personal profile] moonshayde, [profile] suzannemarie, [personal profile] astrumporta and [personal profile] beanpot. And even some fandom "presents" too! You know the bestest thing about fandom presents? Everyone can enjoy them!

First off, was an amusing/scary classic SG-1 team fic by [personal profile] sallymn complete with sparkly font birthday wishes! Heh.

And then [profile] pepper_field wrote a sequel fic to one of my favorite Sam & Daniel tales ever by writing up Therapeutic Effect.

Co-Libra [personal profile] zats_clear who shares my adoration of Lexa Doig, decided to spin off on that as her inspiration for a birthday caption.

Also in the pic motif, [profile] annerbhp outdid herself in
SG-1 team awesomesauce picspam of classic team and S9/10 era. See Jack&Daniel in the naughty corner and Teal'c's wrath on DVR sabotage, or Jaffa Jeopardy (OT: One of today's Jeopardy categories was all about October Firsts. Hee!)

Not to be outdone, [livejournal.com profile] supplyship had the SG-1 team throw together a birthday party for me complete with Urgo.

And still more fic!
Battlefield by [profile] a_loquita is S10 era team on some downtime teamy goodness...but there's a bit of [good natured] conflict going on.

Last but certainly not least, [personal profile] holdouttrout explored Five Beings Who Inhabit the SGC about some of those unsung heroes who work and/or live in the lower levels of Cheyenne Mountain.

And on the dreamwidth side, [personal profile] samantilles made me a few special birthday icons! (I'm using one of them here. :-D

AND someone anonymously gifted me with a year of paid time! (This may have just been coincidental, but I'm not so sure about that). Hmm. I have a small suspect list, but who knows, it may just be some random coincidence. ;-)

And then [personal profile] fignewton, [personal profile] annerb and [personal profile] sg_betty have offered to write me fic based on prompts (they don't realize how dangerous this is. I'm terrible at prompting. When I get inspired it's usually with whole scenes and/or dialogue snippets).

And totally not birthday related, but [personal profile] paian just introduced me to [personal profile] wyomingnot's fanvids...she loves SG-1 AND Leverage. I think I'm in heaven. :-)

(Cross posting this on lj and dw, even though the usernames will probably get mucked up along the way)
aurora_novarum: (Snoopy Typing)
Eeep! My first crossover (well, except for Pie Day, but that was all in the Gateverse).

Title: "Wargames" Didn't Play Out Like This
Category: SG-1/Leverage Crossover; Gen; Action/Adventure; Character Studies; Humor; Episode Related
Rating: PG (for canonesque violence and minor language)
Spoilers: SG-1 Season 8*; Leverage through Season 2, Episode Five

Summary: Hardison has an unusual run-in with "the Man".

Author's Note: Hopefully the fic speaks for itself (as "Other Characters" if you're not familiar with one of the fandoms). Thanks to [profile] ultranos_fic for some computer culture advice and [profile] annerbhp for alpha/beta duties. Any errors or inaccuracies remain my own.

Disclaimer: Stargate SG-1 and its characters are the property of MGM, Double Secret, Gekko Productions, etc. Leverage and its characters are the property of Electric Television, TNT, Paramount, etc. (basically both shows owned by hosts of people who are not me). Okay, so I got so excited about playing with my new shinies, I ended up making icons, including my first ever animated one! Go me!

, ,

I've got ten of Leverage from Season One. and...um, a LOT of Stargate. Just about all from CotG. (This is the NEW release of Children of the Gods, and a lot I specifically took as new footage, so SPOILERPHOBES BEWARE!!!. I want to do some more leverage in the near future. All are shareable with credit. :-)

Thank you kind anonymous person who gifted me with paid dreamwidth time!

I've been having a really icky couple of weeks, and this was a wonderful bright spot to my day. I will try and express my gratitude more thoroughly later (like maybe with fic or something).

But please know your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated.

Title: Az'heni
Category: Gen; Sam; team friendship; father/daughter (Jacob/Sam)
Rating: Pre-teen/PG
Warnings: None
Genre: Angst; Adventure; Drama; Ficathon Challenge
Spoilers: Very Early Season 3 (after Sam's promotion, pre-Seth)
Summary: A stressful first encounter with some offworld natives leads to more of the unexpected and causes Sam to wrestle with some of her recent past.

Link to original version of Az'heni.

Author's Notes: Written for the all gen [livejournal.com profile] samcarterfic the prompter asked for Jacob & Selmak, Sam's teammates, and a white fluffy scarf, with no depressing ending or flashbacks to Sam's childhood.

It's funny. I could think of a nice cute scene with a white fluffy scarf and them having a snowball fight–I fit the punchline of that fight in a scene of the final fic. I could think of a mission they did with Jacob, or Sam and Jacob. But I struggled for a long time to come up with a way to blend all three of these prompts together. Then the idea of the scarf having a symbolic meaning came about. I still tend to think of Az'heni as two parts. Sam rescuing team and member of village, and the Tok'ra/Jacob aspect, but hopefully it blended well enough as a final product.

Title: Alien Babes Get Around
Category: Humor; Ship
Word Count: 690
Spoilers/Warnings: crackfic. Set vagueishly S9.

Summary: McKay is assigned to help one of the Tok'ra with a tricky piece of equipment.

Author's Notes: This is why I never say never. I've commited ship fic. It's crack and McKay/Anise is a bizarre pairing, but I was punchy last night and annerb made a dare and...
